Cotswold Way Relay 2019 - Sunday 29th June
Race Summary by Graham Wright
103 teams ... 103 miles ... 10 stages ... and ... 30 heroic EGRC runners... Ladies & Gents - The Cotswold Way Relay!
From Chipping Campden north of Gloucester all the way down to Bath they charged! They ran, they staggered, they plodded and they sweated. On what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far! The early birds started at 7 am and one by one at hour intervals each stage set off on their 7 to 12 mile journey through the spectacular, green, hilly (and I do mean hilly!) countryside. Last year it was hot. This year it was even hotter. Despite the tough conditions - it did not disappoint. If you were to ask any of the 30 - mid-run - how they were finding it, words like - shocking! horrendous! ridiculous! are you kidding me!? - would be amongst the more publishable. Ask them whilst sipping on a pint, basking in the glory of the post-run victory however, it was more like - amazing! epic! I loved it! do it again next year?! .... yeah I would! One of the best parts of the Cotswold Way Relay is following how members get on throughout the day. The EGRC messenger accounts were pinging away! There are lots of photos on the #TeamEGRC Facebook page for anyone not on messenger - and for anyone not down with the tech - here is also a flavour! All 3 EGRC teams did fantastically well on a day in which it was an achievement just to finish in the heat. It was very close between our teams Not fast, just furious & Legs Miserables - the latter just squeaking ahead by two places. Well done to both. Well done also to our super-fast whippetty team Scrambled Legs - whose legs must have been well and truly scrambled after achieving 6th place out of 54 within the mixed team category and 16th place out of 103 overall! Amazing.
